    Default YAY! for corporate Greed

well a friend of mine is a Linux systems engineer for a local company. he has been there for many many years. he made just over 27/hr

He was issued his pink slip this morning, today is his last day. he was laid off due to "Restructuring."

I received a telephone this after noon from a head hunter for a Linux engineer, same company.
    I thought WTF?...
so I took the technical aptitude test.. passed
    the Position pays 13.75/hr
I have an appointment to finish the paperwork on Tuesday.

I Spoke with him and explained it... he said that they already knew it was happening. he's not mad at me but wishes the company had at least offered them the cut.

chalk another one up for corporate greed!
and yes I feel like shit...

Girlscouts? Hmmm, I don't know... I think it's kinda dangerous to teach young girls self esteem and leadership skills.

    Wow... What a shame.

I make $14.00/hr doing document control stuff, records management and conversion. I recently got a pay bump from $12.00/hr. But I'm a long term temp, no benefits or anything.

Chalk one up for corporate survival and being able to keep the lights on so they can still employ some people.

I'm sorry to hear about your friend, but a lot of companies are in a position where they've already cut out the fat, then some of the muscle, now they're down to the bone if they want to stay solvent. Is that greed?

Exactly. There's more than one side to a story.

This reminds me of the movie Joe Dirt-
"this is a business, this is not a charity. You know, I mean maybe one day UNICEF will get into the impound business, but you know, until then, we're the people to see."
Sorry about your friend, but it sounds like if people are willing to do the same job for half the money the company probably had to do this sooner if later to stay competitive.

Would have been nice if they had at least offered the pay cut to the previous guy.

yeah, they are keeping the lights on...

records profits in the last 2 qtrs and their stocks are up.

I'm afraid this is simply a situation of a corporation taking advantage of the currently unemployment situation.
Seems more and more companies are doing it.

Unless you are self employed... it could be your next
