can students from other states purchase guns here while in state for school?

I know that some states consider students "season residents" with dual residency.

Maybe it's a question for the FFLs....

if someone (over 18) comes into purchase a gun with a student ID (from Colorado)and a drives license from another state can you sell to them?

I think you need a government-provided ID. But energy/water bills in your name and for a local address from the previous 3 months are also accepted.

Yes, but you'll need to prove residency with a government issued document showing an in-state address. If your student ID doesn't have a CO address, it will not be sufficient, and a utility bill is not a government document. You could use that utility bill to get a Colorado ID card with your local address on it, though, and that ID would be sufficient.

I've also been able to use a colorado vehicle registration along with out of state picture ID, but that won't help if you keep your car registered in your non-school state.

If I remember correctly as long as the FFL allows it you can purchase long arms with an out of state ID. Handguns on the other hand require you to live in the state. At least this was the way it was in Washington state when I was stationed there. Had to get a bunch of documents proving I lived there or get a state ID.

Yes, long guns sales can be made by an FFL to a resident of any state, so long as both state's laws allow it. This means that California residents can only buy guns in California, since California law requires a California Dealer Record Of Sale (DROS) for all firearm purchases.

Some other states still have a "neighboring states-only" provision on their law books, which would restrict out of state purchases by residents of those states to states which border on their own state.

Most states, though, long guns from an out of state FFL are not a problem.

Thanks guys... info was for a guy on another forum that lives in Mass and goes to school out here. He was wondering if he could buy guns out here while he was at school (Mass has a restrictive list of guns that can be purchased new in state) It's an opportunity to get guns like glocks that you can't buy new there
