I'm not sure what to make of this:

On one hand, I give the kid mad props for traveling half-way around the world in order to actually SEE something that is going on in his life-time. He is seeing it. He isn't back-seat quarter-backing and talking about something that is going on that he hasn't actually seen with is own eyes. Good for him.

On the other hand, based on the article, he seems to be ill-prepared and ill-equipped to a degree to where he could very easily become a victim in such an environment.

I've seen a great deal of the world and it was often times in less than secure environments. I learned a great deal from it. And I think the biggest lesson that I learned was something that Matthew gave to us that is present in the Holy Bible:

Be quick not to judge, lest you be.... called an ignorant fucking ass-hat for casting judgement on something you'll never understand.

Or at least that is what I think Matthew said.

And for you to cast an ENTIRE university in a negative light speaks volumes about your ignorance.

Its not my cup of tea, nor would I want to do that as ill prepared as he was, but at least he had the balls to go and do something of that magnitude.
We all did stupid shit when we were younger, obviously not this stupid or crazy, but the ignorance of some of these posts astounds me.

Id disagree with you there. I have been rock climbing for 20 years. Tho it isnt exactly the same thing, I have seen people do things climbing that are far worse and didnt get them killed, luck was just with them, When I was in the Navy, I saw some dumbshit from folks who were not trained to do the job they intended to do.

Is he honestly any worse off then any of the inbedded Press reporters and photographers, with the exception of no body armor aside? At least he has or at one time had a weapon to defend himself.
