Default Vacationing in a war zone

    His reason:
"Just thought I would come check it out."

    My thought process:
"Why the hell would anybody be dumb enough to want to do that? Oh... UCLA... that explains it. Wish more of those fucks would join him.... University of Communist Lefty Asshats."

Just like the dumb@$$es who went vacationing in Iraq and decided to take a little hike along the Iranian border...

"Oh, the mean Iranians captured us and are calling us spys - please save us America". They should be executed just for being dumb@sses!

a man was killed and his wife kidnapped in kenya while on vaction at a coast resort near the somali border.

looks like the somali pirates are diversifying.

told my Dad, no sympathy from me for anyone that takes a vacation anywhere near somalia.

Would anyone on here have enough balls to do what that kid did or is still doing?

Its not my cup of tea, nor would I want to do that as ill prepared as he was, but at least he had the balls to go and do something of that magnitude.
We all did stupid shit when we were younger, obviously not this stupid or crazy, but the ignorance of some of these posts astounds me.

There's a fine line between brave and stupid, and this kid is most certainly on the Darwin Awards side of it.

The article makes it seem like he went all the way out there to be a groupie because it would be 'sick'.

Okay, I have, for the most part, done what this kid did (kind of)... I, at the ripe age of 21, signed a good portion of my life over, trained for a few years, then went over to a war zone. Granted I did it in a uniform that included body armor rated to protect me from rifle rounds, a helmet, boots, eye and ear protection, and a nice array of weapons including an M240B 7.62mm crew served machine gun. That's doing it the right way. And I didn't speak Pashtu, Farsi or any other of the 14 languages spoken in the Afghan frontier. This kid really is stupid. He's lucky that Muslims believe in such sheer hospitality, otherwise he would probably be dangling from a sign post in the middle of the city. There is a thin line between ballsy and f*cking retarded... this kid is definitely not ballsy. The same thing goes with the missionaries that go to Jakarta and then people are up in arms when the Al Qaeda friendly Jakarta extremists kidnap and decapitate them. I honestly look at is as a little thing we learned in school way back when called "Natural Selection."

I'm not sure what to make of this:

On one hand, I give the kid mad props for traveling half-way around the world in order to actually SEE something that is going on in his life-time. He is seeing it. He isn't back-seat quarter-backing and talking about something that is going on that he hasn't actually seen with is own eyes. Good for him.

On the other hand, based on the article, he seems to be ill-prepared and ill-equipped to a degree to where he could very easily become a victim in such an environment.

I've seen a great deal of the world and it was often times in less than secure environments. I learned a great deal from it. And I think the biggest lesson that I learned was something that Matthew gave to us that is present in the Holy Bible:

Be quick not to judge, lest you be.... called an ignorant fucking ass-hat for casting judgement on something you'll never understand.

Or at least that is what I think Matthew said.

And for you to cast an ENTIRE university in a negative light speaks volumes about your ignorance.

    Cheers.

Easy dude, he was just defending human life and he had to close the gap from LA to Libya first is all.
