Speaking from a position of "enlightenment" on the issue (4 years as a US Army Intelligence Specialist- with extensive knowledge of Afghanistan), I can say right now that the Taliban is in fact a political party and was the recognized ruling body of Afghanistan from 1996-2001. Just ask the UN. Granted they're no better than Hitler and his goons or the Tutsi rebels who committed the genocide in Rwanda, but they were the gov there for a while.
Personally, I think we should hold them all accountable for crimes against humanity, hang 'em high!

Sadly when it comes to the Taliban its a double edged sword. They are a political party and a "resistance" group in Afghanistan. They have committed acts of terror on their own population, but were recognized by other countries as being legitimate back in the day (BTW the US was not one of them). Honestly I am a bit surprised they allowed such things, we don't recognize them as a legitimate political entity (at least I don't think we still still) and didn't back in the 90's.

I dunno, that might change- Ol Barry O in office is so keen on trying to be peaceful with his Muslim brothers that he might just kneel before them.
