Default When is a receiver a receiver?

I have a half-built kit...the receiver is bent, the front trunion and trigger guard are riveted on and bolt guide rails are spot welded in. I'm thinking about selling it since it's been sitting in a box for a year. Do I have to put my name and serial number it to sell it, or is it not yet a "firearm"?

as soon as it was bent, it became a firearm... so at this point it needs to be treated as a home-built firearm.

Are you saying a bent piece of sheet metal with no holes and nothing attached is a receiver?

You used to be able to buy bent, undrilled, too long sheet metal blanks. They weren't considered receivers then.

    Has this changed?

if he started with a "AK flat" (an assumption on my part, based attaching trigger guard & trunnion), then there are holes, mag opening, dimples, top rails, etc already done.

Cold steel solutions sells sheet metal bent in the right shape, but with no holes drilled... they are not a receiver until holes are drilled- just how many holes would require an ATF ruling.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of kit? (not offering to buy, I've got too many projects already ATM)

It's a Bulgy kit from Apex, with a new barrel.

I got kind of hung up on the barrel since it requires drilling the gas port...but I'm going to suck it up, finish it up to that point and have someone drill the port.

And yeah, it was a flat. It had some holes, dimples and top rails. It's probably close enough to being complete for me to not risk it.

Plus, it's my only AK now.
