Lightbulb Advice on a mossberg 500ab project

So I could use some advice. I have a 20+ year old Mossberg 500 AB. This is the factory 18 1/2 " barrel. I added a pistol grip 20 years ago. Here is the problem I face and what to do without spending enough to buy a new one.

Barrel is rusty, wood forend is scratched to hell. This was my old trunk / camping gun so it saw no TLC. Last time I shot it in about 1994 it was fine but now I like it as a home defense gun. I don't want to go tacticool, was thinking new forend, and a duracoat job. Or should I sand down and refinish the wood forend and steel wool polish the barrel.

Maybe one of the industry partners can ballpark the cost of a OD green duracoat job with a new forend and a quick run through tune up.

Or should I tell the wife one of you guys traded me straight across for a new camo one that might show up in the house one day

Burt is the man. (burt seems so much more manly than bert, I'm just saying)

or parkerize it instead of duracoat.

Thanks guys , I might have to take you guys up on the parts. Looks like I will have to see Bert later this week, as I am out of town for work the next few days for work.

    I am Hoping for a $100-$150 project.

Any thoughts on color to go with. Matte black would be cool , but a OD green would be sweet too.

Once I get with Bert I will PM you guys on the parts.

    .
Maybe there is a reason he prefers "Bert"?

Is it just the outside of the barrel that is rusted ? Or is the chamber and bore also rusted ?

Ha, couldnt remember how he spelled Burt , of course I chose the wrong one.

As far as I can see it is just the outside of the barrel that has rust spots inside the barrel is just dust and cobwebs

Thanks for the props guys, I truly appreciate it.

FlyFisher- send me a PM when you get back in town and we can go over your options.

Its with an "E" - my Godfather was named Bert. Its a family thing

My Godfather was an exceptional man. Ran a HUGE cattlespread outside of Cody Wyoming, chuckwagoned fire crews in the summer and babysat the oil rigs that he leased land to. Incredible Indian artifact collection that he collected from his property. Neat old guy.
    I miss him.
