Driving away is certainly the right response, but we all know that's not always possible. An angry ape at your window could do anything, or be carrying anything, so IMO you'd damned well better be ready to respond. If you see a hammer, tire iron or whatever coming at your door window, it's time to react, not wait until after he's smashed the window and has you by the throat.

JMHO of course. I don't go around trying to irritate anybody, but shit happens. If I don't see somebody and accidently get in his way briefly, he sure doesn't have any right to try to harm me for doing so. But I DO have the right to protect myself from some angry macho asshole who wants to beat me up or cause me harm.

I didn't see anything in the article that said who did what, or what the incident was even about. If the guy with the gun was a non-aggressor and was just preparing to defend himself against a raging lunatic, then I'm on his side.
That is what I was going to say I would have my gun ready if I could not drive off, first off if my family would have been in the car the windows would have been rolled up with the doors locked and gun ready. That is if I could not just simply drive off, I sure would not have racked the slide and showed my gun unless I was going to use it.
