    Default Home defense shotgun

I'm looking for opinions and options. I'm fairly certain I want to pick up a mossberg 500 defender but I was wondering if there is anything a little smaller available in that price range.

    Define "size"
    Gauge or length?

Pretty hard to beat a Mossy 500 or 870 for an "under the bed" gun.
Big 5 just had the Mossy Maverick 88 on sale for 250ish.

Dangers H&R is a good buy and, so is a Mossberg 500 or Remington 870. I would handle a couple different models to see what feels good to you. Also, stick with a pump as they are not picky with ammo!

I like the mossberg safety set up on top of the receiver instead of the remington trigger guard set up. There's not a rat's ass worth of difference reliability-wise between the 500, 590 and the remington 870.

when you say "defender" are you talking pistol grips? if so, reconsider and go with a regular shoulder stock--while longer, far easier to control and shoot accurately.
