I don't wish to hijack the thread (no pun intended) but more information than I care to post about the training exercises can be found with a Google search. Google "Operation Northern Vigilance" and you'll see why so many believe the 9-11 attacks were not just the work of goat herders living in Afghan caves. For the London attacks Google "7-7-05 exercises ". Set some time aside, because you'll be reading for quite a while. Sooner is probably better than later, lest they fall down the memory hole...

Operation Northern Vigilance, was a NORAD operation which involved deploying fighter aircraft to locations in Alaska and Northern Canada.[1] The operation was a response to a Russian exercise, in which long-range bombers were dispatched to Russia's high north. The operation was one part simulation, one part real world. It was immediately called off after NORAD received word from NEADS that the Federal Aviation Administration had evidence of a hijacking. All simulated information (so called "injects") were purged from computer screens at NORAD headquarters in Colorado. On receiving news of the attacks, the Russians promptly canceled their exercise as well.

On the afternoon and evening of 7th July 2005, information came to light about a private company running a terror rehearsal operation in London at the time that real explosions were reported to have occurred on the transport network. These revelations came not from an anonymous source but instead from the Managing Director of the private firm running the terror rehearsal operation. The private firm is Visor Consultants and the Managing Director in question is Peter Power. For over three years, the client for whom the terror rehearsal was being organised was not known. Don't panic Friday if your surroundings erupt with
sounds and images more familiar in Kandahar
than Denver.

More than 100 emergency agencies will take
part in a terrorism response exercise that
promises to attract attention throughout the
metro area.

Simulated explosions will boom, smoke will rise,
and emergency vehicles will blare warning
signals as fake weapons are drawn.

The exercise, Operation Mountain Guardian Operation OMG , is
scheduled to begin at 5 a.m. and end at 4:30 p.
m. and will involve 14 separate locations.
The exercise is an opportunity for regional first
responders to react to a mock terrorist-driven
catastrophe.

"We want to make sure that people will know
this is what is happening on Friday," said Denver D
istrict Attorney spokeswoman Lynn Kimbrough.
Most of the action will break out at five locations
over the course of the day: Park Meadows Mall;
Smedley Elementary School; Union Station;
Community College of Aurora; and Denver
International Airport.

Sky Ridge Medical Center; Denver Health Medical
Center and University of Colorado Hospital, will
test their ability to handle a surge of injured
patients during the drill. And Sports Authority
Field at Mile High Stadium "may have a small role
in helping to process the (pretend) mass
casualties," Kimbrough said.

Catholic Charities will serve as an evacuation
center where children from Smedley will be
taken.
