How could you tell? The reason I ask is that I bought some at a show awhile back at a REALLY good price and in a plain cardboard box. My first thought was that they were Chinese knock-offs. At the time, I went to Magpul's site and found their literature which explained the differences but the set I bought passed all the tests.
So at this point, I don't know if their a legitimate gen-1 set MBUS or the Chinese got better with their goods. For what it's worth, this was right around the time that Magpul released the Gen-2 so they may have just been clearing stock but that wouldn't explain the plain box.
i didnt realy look at them before i bid but i bided $15. but i just bought a bunch of shit from cheaper than dirt and they sent me a catalog so i just looked at the mbus in the catalog, mine have allen screws, magpul has flatheads, mine the knob is on the left, magpuls are on the right, this is how i was able to tell other then that the qaulity is about the same
This one is local- you can probably do a little better out of state- but this is the army issue unit
