Default Is "victim" really an appropriate title?

Saw this on 9news' website today... a 35 year-old married woman and football team booster is accused of having sex with a 17-year old football player. I wouldn't say the kid is a victim... C'mon, you have a 35-year-old woman get physical with you 3 or 4 times you are lucky at that age! She cites "loneliness" as the reasoning for her actions. Neighbors disagree, as they say "Kids were always over there, it looked like a fun household, not lonely." I don't think that's the kind of lonely she was referring to.
    Thoughts?

17? To me that is fine. If it were 13-14 it's not, but at 17 you should be fully aware of the consequences of sexual activity. I don't really understand the magical barrier that 18 is supposed to be. I never knew any 18 year olds I would consider vastly more mature and responsible decision makers than 17 year olds.

Man, if I'd been getting some skull from some mom at the age of 17, I'd have been the happiest kid in school! She may be an ugly one, but knobbin' is knobbin', he wasn't going to marry her. Yes, it's illegal and she should be punished, etc., but calling the kid a victim? I'd call him a lucky s.o.b.

Im just tired of the double standard in this area, if the genders were reversed the accused would be looking at a much more serious charge than this chick is going to end up with. Its BS.

That's the point I was getting at... and a bit of confusion comes out of this.
So a 15 year old packs a gun into his backpack and goes over to the park where some kids he doesn't like are playing, he shoots them dead- fully aware of his actions- and is put on trial where it is decided he be tried as an adult for 1st degree murder. But in this case, an older woman is banging a younger boy who is 17, yet he is still a child and she's the one who becomes the "suspect." I scratch my head on this one...

couldn't agree more . if it were a man it would be considered rape until the second she turned 18 . the media would raise hell and he would have the book thrown at him .

Oh yeah, having sex with kids ain't right, any way ya look at it. I'm just saying that if I was a 17 y.o. boy and was getting hummers from a 35 y.o. woman, I'd think I'd died and gone to heaven. I sure wouldn't think I was being victimized.

I'd have a problem with a 35 year old having sex with my kid whether the child was 18 or 17 and it wouldn't matter if the genders were reversed. Either way there is a huge maturity and cognitive gap.
