the part that gets me is this.....

Cost to become a US citizen? $700-$4000.
Cost to pay a drug cartel to smuggle you in along with illegal drugs? $2000-$4000

When people say its to expensive to become a citizen and they cant afford it I say BS. They can afford to try 2,3, and sometimes even 4 times with the cartels they can afford the $595 application fee!

its not just the application fee
the administrative fee the background fee, the bs fee, that fee, the other fee, the paperwork fee, the fee to process the paperwork fee, the fee fee...
it takes 8 visits and 400 pages of Bullshit to be legal... I think we should make it easier, not free... just easier.

the only thing not downsizing during the recession is the Government.

I am aware of this. I have friends who became citizens 2 years ago. Its the finger prints, the passports, all of it adds up, but still is about $4000 on the high end. Still potentially less than paying a drug cartel to try and get you in.

I am all for immigration, LEGAL Immigration. My family moved here from Italy in the 40's.

If employers would lose the illegal migrant workers, then they would be forced to pay Americans a living wage or not get the work done. It really wouldn't raise the cost of the finished product that much. If you pay someone 15$ an hour instead of 7$ is not going to double the price of lettuce. Even if it did I would be willing to pay the premium to give Americans the opportunity to work. Make an environment that requires deadbeat employers to up their wages and I think there would be a difference.

You're always going to have the lazy that won't work for any wage. That's a different subject.
One other thought along these lines. We have passed laws that now deprive the US of how we used to do it.

How many here stood on the corner waiting for the bus to pick you up to go pick beans/strawberries and other stuff at 5am in the summer when you were 9-12 years old? I did. Now the laws will not allow it because it is "child abuse". I had my frozen soda and a sandwich in my bag for lunch. I left at 5am and got home around 6pm. I made 25 cents a crate for strawberries. On a good day I could pick 15-18 crates.
I see you running, tell me what your running from

Along the same lines as "what American would want to do the job that illegals do?" How about someone who's been unemployed for 12 or more months? American's don't want to go clean toilets, or vacuum hotel rooms, or be janitors at high schools. Bullshit. Some of the jobs we're giving to illegals are the same jobs my friends and I had in high school. Over the summer, to save up to buy my first car when I was 14 I rode my bike 5 miles every day at 4:30AM to go make dough and form bagels. It was $7.50/hr, the work sucked, but I was off by 11 every day and just in time to go enjoy the sun and swim. And guess what? It turned me into a productive member of society. The difference today? These cretins go work some $6.00/hr job and send 1/2 their paycheck back to Mexico! You know where 2/3 of my paycheck went when I worked summer jobs in school? Savings, to buy an American sold product (granted my first car was a VW, but I bought it from a hard working American). Where did the rest of my money go? To buy CD's, Movies, video games- all made and sold in America (or so I hope). And part of that money went into the paycheck of some walmart or bestbuy or FYE employee.

I don't want to have to clean the toilets or wash the dishes at my part time job, when I am qualified to be the general manager, but I do it anyway.

Exactly. I get offended when the libs pull stunts like when Colbert when out and worked some menial labor job (picking crops of some sort), and then proclaimed how he would never do that again. Just because your worthless and a lazy bastard with a good job going on doesn't mean you can degrade Americans who are employed doing the same thing. My grandparents on my mom's side worked as fruit pickers in the south for a while during a tough time in their life. I work at jobs I detest because I need to eat. I've never pulled unemployment in my life.
