Default I am SO pissed right now...

My employer sent me to a location in the US for several months, where I am required by agreement to stay until I am released to leave by the contractee. Those of us who are here were promised a certain minimum number of hours per week as inventive to go to whatever site we were sent to. We got to our location, and were immediately informed upon arrival that we will only get whatever hours they decide we need to work. We should get 40 hours a week, but that is considerably less than we were told we'd get. I'll actually make less here than at my "home" station based on this little maneuver of theirs, and I can't leave to go see my family or anything else. I'm so pissed right now, I can hardly see straight. And I'm not the only one.

Just had to get that out. Now, for the inevitable ......

As much as that fricken blows, 40hrs is much better than 0hrs.

Trouble, sorry to hear that man... Did you sign a contract/etc in writing saying you would work x number of hours? If not, not much can be done.

I've been burned like that before. Man does it suck...

    Angry That SUCKS!!

That's total BS! I had a contractee try that crap when I worked for that three lettered, blue logo, corporation 20 years ago. It's an old ploy that demands retaliation. In my case, they soon discovered that the fewer hours that were allotted... the less that actually got completed. I say activate the "ID-TEN-T" alert with your base employer and feign brain damage until this is corrected!

In the mean time move from warp speed to sublight.... Get a helmet, your pass for the short bus and move at 30-50% of rated capacity.

If that fails, "cry, 'Havoc!' and let slip the dogs of war!!!" by implementing a "scorched earth" campaign of retribution by digital reputation besmirchment & character assassination from multiple annonymous internet vectors. And then Complain... LOUDLY & OFTEN & AT INCONVENIENT TIMES... Might just cause them to release you to allow you to seek greener pastures.

After all... they probably hired y'all because they do not possess the quality of resources to intercept & nullify someone with your skillset, no?

Is this going too far? Naw... they earned it!!

Excellent post and advice to Trouble.

Good Luck Trouble. I have sat at electrical yards for a couple weeks watching the paint dry when they wouldnt let us work for some BS reason after another. We finally after making the company pay us for 3 weeks of doing nothing, flew home with the stipulation of calling us back to the yard when they were ready to deenegize surrounding equipment and allow crane ops to take place. They learned a valuable lesson, because we billed them full freaking rates. They never did that to us again and we still have a lot of work with that company to this day.

If you've got that promise of at least 40hrs per week in writing, I'd start mumbling "Breach of Contract lawsuit" when ever you call the home office. That usually get someone's attention.

Yes do this if you hate working 40 a week and want to be on unemployment.

Fixed it. Because then you could add wrongful termination to the lawsuit. Of course this all depends on the contract he was hired under, but it's bullshit and it should be fought.

There's plenty of contractors out there, he can always find a better one. I work with a Booze Allen guy and they never seem to be short of work.
