No one tells their 9 year-old to go browse a gun web forum. The ones that are old enough to have an interest in some of the threads are saying worse things to their friends already. Adding some astericks isn't going to accomplish anything that a minimal effort in parenting would.

No, we are not all adults - this is a family-oriented site and always has been.

Even if we were all adults, many of our members feel compelled to behave and speak like a 16yo gang-banger wannabe.

I tried to warn folks here but while several members appreciated me providing the warning to the site others took it as a challenge to rachet the language up a notch.

Site profanity filter solves the problem and no one has to wash their mouths out with soap.

The Mods control this site and can make whatever rules they want. I agree 100% with that so don't take my below statement as a request to reverse the change.

I MUST point out some inconsistencies in your logic above.

You don't want us cussing on here because it is a family oriented site and we don't need our kids reading that language...oh and also because we're all adults and we shouldn't cuss like kids... Hum...

So are we trying to keep the kids away from adult language or the adults away from kid language...?

I try not to cuss around my kids or anybody else's. And I keep my language professional at work and appropriate in public. Sometimes we all get a little carried away on here and forget that this is a public place, I understand that. It's not a bad thing to try to clean it up, even if a little silly because you don't know if you are trying to keep the adults from acting like kids or the kids from acting like adults.

My OP was really only meant to inquire about the change so thanks for the reminder this is a public place. I will personally keep the curse words using $$ instead of ss to a minimum.

Thing is the cuss word filter here is set REAL HIGH. Ass, for example, is not on the list of words that is filtered.

Overall I think I can live with that level of censorship. (oddly enough the censor program missed the "****" in "cocksucker" ... that's weird ... the mods should remove that word from the list since its used here more to describe a mechanical function of a firearm more than it is to refer to male chickens or gentlemans' sausage).
