Default Text Messages: A Personal Perspective

I don't like them. I don't like receiving or sending them. I don't supply my TELEPHONE number in a For Sale ad just so I can respond to a text message.

Especially one that's vague and doesn't include a name.

I have 2, maybe 3 guns for sale on this site and GunMarket right now. And I get the following text:
    "Still have gun?"
That's it. No name, the gun isn't specified, no "Thanks", no nothing other than "Still have gun?".

Maybe it's just me but I find text messages like that incredibly rude and impersonal. In the time it took to type that out on a phone the person could've dialed the number, identified them-self and asked about a specific gun. As it is, I have no clue what gun they're talking about. That means I have to either call that person (whom I don't know because I don't have a name) or go through a back and forth text dialogue that's a waste of my time and incredibly annoying because it's a conversation that could've been easily completed with a 1 minute phone call.

And it costs me .20 cents. Not a big deal until you're paying for 15 to 20 unwanted text messages a month. That's the cost of a 1/2 gallon of Blue Bell Ice Cream!

It's entirely possible I'm overreacting to this and the person who sent the text is sincere and in no way meant to be annoying. I know that. And if it was one of you guys on this forum, please understand this isn't a personal thing.

I just don't like text messages because they're a pain in the ass and a terrible way to communicate because there's no personal connection there.

If it was you, and you're interested in the gun, just use your phone to give me a call. We'll talk.

I won't text message someone that I'm not friends with. I definitely agree that it's rude and if I don't know how you communicate, things can get miscommunicated easily.

As for the annoying text messages, call your provider and block text messaging.

    Default I agree

Some folks just don't have any etiquette when using text messaging. Yet I'd like to point out that blue bell ice cream is full of corn syrup and it may be good for your health to spend your money somewhere else....

I know I can block them. I don't want to do that because there's always a chance there's an important text that'll need to be sent for whatever reason if someone can't call.

If you dont want to sell the weapon dont respong to the text.

I agree the contents of the text were insufficient but if it results in selling one of your guns then I say its WELL worth the 1-2 minutes (tops) that it takes you to respond.

Lot's of stuff I consume isn't good for me physically. Blue Bell Ice Cream is more of a spiritual thing. It's very good for me in that regard.

And if you want to buy the weapon, communicate effectively.

I don't have a smart phone with a real keyboard. It's a PITA to text with my phone and would take much longer than 1 or 2 minutes. It takes me that long to find my glasses so I can see the letters...they're much smaller than the numbers.

And one reply is gonna lead to another text. Then I have to reply to that one. And on and on it goes.

It's funny...because I don't mind communicating through email or PM. I guess because I'm not so limited on what I can say and how I can communicate.

I also understand a lot of people conduct all their business with text messaging and love it. I'm not one of those people.
