    Default Robin Olds

Anybody ever hear of this stud? Ace in WW2, ace over VN. "The fighter sweep worked as planned. The Migs came up, they were aggressive, we tangled, they lost." Robin Olds. RIP

I think he's been referred to as the father of dog fighting tactics or something like that. There was a documentary on his exploits on the discovery or history channel.

He had some really dangerous and uncouth methods that supposedly turned the air war in our favor when the gooks were shooting down all of our birds that were inferior to the MiGs. I guess when they got the Phantoms they continued using the call signs the older, slower birds were using and when the gooks spun up and got in the air they never saw it coming. I believe he was also using c-130s as bait. I may have dreamed that though.

Robin Olds was a well-known fighter ace; highly revered in the Air Force for being a great warrior and unconventional thinker. He cut his eye teeth in WW2 but then educated the new pilots in the lost art of dogfighting in Viet Nam. In the operation you're thinking of (Operation Bolo), he had his flight of F-4 Phantom IIs (AF's best fighter in VN) simulate the flight path and call signs of F-105 Thunderchiefs (tactical bombers) to lure the MiGs in -- then lowered the boom when they took the bait.

You can see footage and interviews with him on The History Channel from time to time -- they featured him in at least one episode of Dogfights. As has been mentioned before, he died in 2007 in Steamboat Springs and is buried at the Air Force Academy.

The real American heroes are dying off at an alarming rate. I sure hope today's American heroes can fill their shoes. I don't know where tomorrow's heroes will come from, as most of the breeding seems to be being done by the Muslims and the Mexicans. Beyond that the Lefties own the education system.
