Yup-easy fix- take a nice and sharp center punch and "stake" the pin in place. On the outside of the lug where the hole is place the point of the punch just outside of the hole with the pin in place. Give it a sharp rap but you are not trying to drive the punch through the lug. The punch mark should upset a smidge of lug metal into the hole, holding the pin in place. Repeat for the other side. Stone any burrs flush with the lug surface.
If you are not sure/comfortable taking a hammer to your 1911 give me a shout. I hammer goodly!

Never seen one get hit directly but have seen some pic's back in the day with the grease marks from the spring implanted in a few peoples forehead.

The extractor could put a persons eye out but they normally just go MIA to the clueless.

I was in grade school (severely into anything weapon related) and my grandfather took me to an Army recruiting booth they set up in town. I promptly picked up a 1911 and put my left hand on top of the slide and tried to rack it. Being a young kid I didn't quite have enough strength so I got the slide partially back and had to let it go back forwards. Now the left hand (still on top of the slide) managed to get the web of the thumb between the slide and the hammer (which wasn't locked back) so that the hammer pinched the web right painful like. I literally was standing there with the 1911 hanging by the web of my thumb.

Not uttering a word I managed to get the hammer back the second try. I suspect adrenalin probably played a part in this. I very quickly replaced said pistol on the table and didn't mention it to anyone till today.

On the other hand I did impress the recruiters with my knowledge of military weapons and thus got a tour and instruction in the use of all the gear there including an M-60 and a LAW.

For a kid less than 10 years old and big time into weapons I was in heaven.
