An "idiot scratch" on a 1911 is caused by incorrect re-assembly technique. For some reason lots of people think that the slide stop rotates upward from the trigger area while applying pressure to it in an attempt to push it into place. It doesn't and the result is the "idiot scratch".
The correct way is to line up the takedown notch (crescent cut) in the slide with the slide stop and push the slide stop home. Sometimes they can be quite reluctant but with a little stone work on the back of the slide stop they snick into place quite nicely.

I'm glad your alright! Common error. My buddy pierced his left ear with my 500 S&W. New revolvers tend to shave the bullet a couple of times before breaking in. I always wear the hard muffs, he didn't!!

Me thinks that you need to go see "The Man" (Bert) before those few hundred rounds so this is the only blood pictures you post.

Never seen one get hit directly but have seen some pic's back in the day with the grease marks from the spring implanted in a few peoples forehead.

The extractor could put a persons eye out but they normally just go MIA to the clueless.
