Damn! I just saw that on Gizmodo and Hoser beat me to it! It's American ingenuity like this that helped us win WWII and it's great see that tradition is still alive.

Lots of awesome is inspired by Hollywood, books, comics, all forms of fiction.

Hell Isaac Asimov may yet prove to be the worlds best fortune teller.

Unfortunatelynot the best ... Orwell and Rand were more spot on

Actually I'm amazed how much stuff Edgar Rice Borroughs predicted.

Hollyweird writers have been stealing from him for ages.

Hollywood is just one outlet for Fiction at large, which is why I listed other mediums... I can think of only one Isaac Asimov book to be turned into a movie recently, "I, Robot". Don't think it did very well in theatres, but I liked it... the world, if nothing else.

And yes, very frequently movies source their material on other stuff. Kids toys too...

In addition to what's listed on IMDB, there's several of his concepts that were stolen by other writers and used in movies.

Plus I think there's talk of making Foundation into an Avatar like 3d cartoon (which will either be awesome or really really really suck).

I guess my inner nerd is showing through on this one because the first thing I thought of when I saw this was Warhammer 40k.
