In 2001, the band Daft Punk released their album Discovery. It had 14 tracks, each with an anime music video.

If you string all the videos together, it's actually an hour long movie with a coherent story, the only dialogue in it being the music lyrics.

It's actually a really cool movie. you can watch the whole thing here.

I believe the name is more of a reference to the actual meaning of the word punk rather than the style of music.

Daft meaning stupid, punk meaning a type of thug or hooligan.

So, stupid kid, essentially.
