    Default click?

So, did a little bird hunting at a preserve yesterday.
and getting thru the day getting back into it (oh yeah, don't admire the bird as it flies away, SHOOT IT) and the dog is working and gets one on point, we walk up and BOOM the chukar flushes
    straight away riser, easy shot
mount it and just as the shotgun touches my shoulder pull the trigger
    I mean textbook

    CLICK

    loudest click I've ever heard.

    WTF is going on?
    Click?
high quality ammo, great gun, WTH?

    open gun (SxS) and find

    Nothing
    it was empty.

    arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I had loaded it, But I had been walking up back from the truck and just left the action open and they must have bounced out. We got close and I snapped it shut without checking.

    lesson learned.

Hahahahaha! Thats great. Not that you missed it, because of a mistake but humble enough to put it out there. I was expecting one of those "whats wrong with my gun, ammo, etc." When sometimes things can easily be chalked up to human error.

better to miss a bird because of an unloaded gun than look down the barrel of a loaded gun you thought you took the shells out of.

The two loudest sounds in the world...
A click when it should have gone bang, and a bang when it should have gone click.

I know the feeling. Had similar experience hunting deer. Doe seaon back in PA and cold as hell. Literally a doe 15 yards away on the ground. Pulled up thinkng guaranteed meat. Click. The bolt didn't pick up the round. Definatley watch that round go in every time now.

Went to the cabin a few weeks back and thought - hey - I'll take a couple of guns and shoot for a few...
    the .38 was fine...
unloaded the 9mm JHP from the mags and loaded them up with 'what I thought' was 9mm FMJ...
    *CLICK*
    dang... what the...
    manipulates the slide and...
    *CLICK*
    WTF?
Turns out I accidentally grabbed this...

and not what I wanted... this:

Put small dents in the primer... but no bang... thankfully.
