I want the dillion 650 what else do I need

So me and my brother are quikly becoming high round count shooters and we have alot of brass saved. We have decided we will split the dillion 650 and I also want to get the Mr.bullet feeder. I just would like to know what you guys think we should buy to make this setup a realy realy nice reloading setup

I have one. Been wishing for a case feeder. If you're going to be loading different calibers, consider investing in tool heads for each. I'd probably buy some extra primer tubes, assuming it comes with only one.

I have about 25 of the blue plastic boxes that the finished rounds drop into. The guy I bought the press from thought he needed them all, but I rarely use more than 5 or 6 at a time at the most. If you want a couple extras and it's convenient to meet up sometime, I'll give you some.

First a couple of Questions i would have in order to answer your questions? which i would expect others to ask the same! is what calibers do you plan to load? have you been reloading on a single stage press or is this the first you and your brother are getting into reloading?

I currently have a Dillon 550B which is the model down from the 650 personally i like it more as i feel i have more control over the press when operating it, but that is just me!

I can give you the dealer i bought my press from in boulder he is a good guy and will help you with what you want or need to get. if you order it from him rather than Dillon your self you save around 9 percent off the total better than nothing when you spend 600+ dollars from Dillon every bit helps! The rounds I will be doing is 223 45acp 308 3030 7mm we have used a single stage but have minimal experiance and I feel it is way to slow my time is worth something and for me its cheaper to buy factory loads then to use a single stage

i understand what you mean by your time is worth something! but reloading isn't something you always want to rush. when your rush you have problems and miss things!

Based on the calibers you have mentioned i would focus on the ones you shoot the most rounds with to justify buying the conversions and dies needed to load using the progressive press. for the 650 you are talking around 75-100 per caliber granted some calibers cross over on shell holders and powder funnels you are still paying a large chunk of change to load different calibers!

The 650 will be a breeze with pistol calibers if set up right, rifle calibers you can do all the steps on the press to a point if you chose too i don't personally recommended it as it can cause problems later down the road and it wasn't how i was taught to reload rifle rounds! you should do it in two stages if you can! Case Prep as one stage on a separate tool head or single stage and using a second tool head to Load. you will have a better quality of reloads in the long run! you will still save time as you will be completing more steps this way than you would if you just used a single stage just will costs more money to save a little time and yet still retain quality!


This is assuming you have the basic stuff like:
Case tumbler
Scale
Dies
trimmer
Tools Example:Caliper
your single strange press (good to have one!)
(Table to mount everything on)

To give you an idea bellow a list your might order:

650 press comes with one conversion! so lets say 45 acp and you get the large pistol case loader for large pistol as well cost is 556.95

than 4 more conversions to cover the other calibers you wish to load! $76.95 times 4

4 powder dies $9.95 x 4

4 tool heads $24.95 x4

large rifle case loading shell Platte 37.95
small rifle case loading shell Platte 37.95
(you might need to get the XL rifle Platte to load the 7mm not sure if the large rifle will work! which is 48.95 ish again might be best to just load these rounds on the single stage press)

a two pack of priming tubes both large and small for 21.95 (you might want to get a couple more your choice just more money)

extra 650 Parts kit 24.95 ish (saves you time encase something breaks as you are loading you can swap it out now than call Dillon to have them send over a replacement for the broken part, no down time!)

(you might want to buy an extra Powder Drop so you can set one up for pistol and one up for rifle this will save you time in having to swap out parts when switching between calibers) 79.95 dollars extra!

plus the Mr. Bullet feeder which is like 885ish for all of these 45 acp, .223 and 308 you might have a better quote for this unit than what i can find but it isn't a cheap one that's for sure!

Plus any dies you currently don't have i don't know about this i was assuming from your single stage set up you have all the die sets for the calibers you mentioned and most of the basic stuff need.


sorry for the long post hope some of this helps you and your brother would be looking at a pretty big split if you chose to get into this. you will save time loading pistol and most rifle calibers using a progressive its just the cost of getting into it which sucks!

If you wanted to talk with that Dillon dealer i mentioned to see what you would save. message me for his contact info, in the mean time if you go to Dillon's website and pick out everything i mentioned or you figured out what you wanted you can see if it would save you any amount of money!

Take your total not including shipping times 78% than add 10% from that total times 4.75% sales tax and around 25-30 dollars for shipping and you have your total!

total off Dillon is $1128.15 x 78%= 879.96x10%+879.96= 967.96 x4.75%=1013.93 plus 25.00 shipping usually, so you save close to 100.00 bucks which is better than nothing if you can find someone with a better deal i would say do it or by used if you can find a good deal hard to get a good deal though they all sell very close to there asking price!
