I am still serious wondering how in the hell anyone can claim copyright on a design or image that is currently public domain.

that would be like me trying to copyright a circle...

yeah, according to that they are only an applicant...

again I refer to my statement that Colt should be involved as it is their original work and design released to public domain.

I said I wasn't going to talk about it, but after seeing it on the screen once more, it kinda pisses me off. One, it's a design patent, if you look up a design patent (even to trade marks) if it is a little different, you can get away with it. Considering my bolt was actually designed different (more detail) I'm sure it would have been ok. Throw in the fact that there was a big C surrounding the different design and you have a completely different animal. All and all, they have an exact patent on that exact design, if you really want to get down to it, I could just rotate the bolt on mine 45 degrees and put the ejector in the 12 position. All I know is that I am going to call their exact patent lawyer Tracy Jong Monday to see what the hell is up.

If someone really wants to read up on the actual laws, here ya go:

I definitely understand where you're coming from. That being said, I would love to see you channel your anger/frustration into creating an awesome sticker/logo that we can proudly display and call our own.

If you put them in their place and we could use our (your) original sticker design...

forgive my horrid MS Paint skills

    OK trying this again...

what if the state flag had Lugs on the C and only SEVEN lugs...
as I recall their copyright says eight.

we would essentially be removing the extractor and rotating the bolt to aling to the C Pattern.

    as in below
I altered a state flag.... instead of touching anything that has been claimed by someone else.

It did say eight, said nothing about a bullet...

they might cry you have only added to their design instead of creating an original.
