My grandpa tought me very similar technique - you spread the log to four pieces, then put them "back together" and burn it from inside. It actually works to prepare food and stuff...

Eta: well, apparently you guys call it "Swedish Fire Torch"....

That's something I wouldn't pay for. But may try my next camping trip. The swedish torch looks easier though.
Don't get me wrong this looks dumb as hell and the guy in the video should have burned the trash instead of pocketing it.
However, have you ever tried to make coffee by a fire? It a pain. you have to make it find a flat rock close enough to the fire and watch it so it doen't turn into a pot of lava. This might be just the thing to do.

Yeah, I don't see myself buying that "stove", it just reminded me of that "Swedish Fire Torch".

I could make one with a chainsaw. I don't know how I would put that hole in the side though with the tools that I bring....? What would I use?

    Oh yeah!

Thanks for sharing this is something I never thought of but looks like a neat trick.

I wouldn't even try to duplicate that "stove", the "Swedish torch" works just fine and doesn't require special tools. The idea how they both work is pretty much the same, the "stove" is just fencier...
My grandpa told me they were using this technique during the WW II, so it's been around for a while..
