Default Yet another reason to have it close by

My wife tells me this story today:
A couple separates, the wife is living apart from her estranged husband. 7 months into it she goes to another couples house for a visit when the ex tracks her down. He bursts into the house and starts beating her badly, the couple tries to stop them, but he is pretty intent on doing some damage. At one point he pulls out a gun (unsure of make) and pistol whips his wife. When that does meet his satisfaction he shoots her in the heart and turns the gun on himself. The other couple was lucky enough to not get shot, but their (the friends) 2 small children had to witness this and the male friend was attempting to wrestle the suspect away from the victim and almost caught one when the suspect popped himself. I know if this had happened at my house, only one person would have POSSIBLY been shot.

Wow. Certainly not the kind of situation one usually imagines when considering a home invasion/break-in scenario.

Here's hoping none of us ever have to experience anything similar.

    Hey I can hope...

If I'm dressed, it's on my hip... that close enough? He'd got shot for walking in my house uninvited. Karl.

Apparently it happened very fast and even if there was a gun in the house he may not have had time to get to it. aving on your person would have been best, but I only carry outside.

    Sad thing

It is not clear whether he was invited in or not...it mentions an argument that "turned physical"

He may have calmly nd rationally asked to "come in"

Seems likely that the homwowners were trying NOT to make a big deal about it...which turned out to be a bad plan

Very lucky that nobody else was killed...or even injured
