Default Been a long time since I bought a knife...

...and holy cow is the selection overwhelming!!!

What are some of your favorites? I'm looking for a good fixed blade drop point without a gut hook and preferably a wood or bone handle but this knife will be practical not pretty so it will need to be a bit rough. Definitely looking for a finger groove or guard/quillion as well. I would rather not break $200.00 but the right knife can steal a mans heart away. Not literally.

So anyone that's made this kind of investment lately, what companies have you gone with? Seems to be a crap-ton out there now. What information did you gather?

I think I may see if they have one of these in stock tomorrow to see how it feels.

I know the basics of it. But do you have a forge? or just use a torch?

And sorry for derailing your thread OP!

I redneck'd a forge out of cinderblocks and dirt... actually works pretty damn well. I've also done it with a coffee can and some clay, but the cinderblocks seem to work better. Then a welding glove, a BFH, and some vice grips, and you're good to go.

I wouldn't call this a compete derail... more like changed tracks or something
