What does it mean to be an American to you then? Serious question, serious debate, not being smart ass or picking a fight. Because I am embracing this country and its freedom very much. Coming from a moderate muslim country where devout woman muslim cannot even show her hair, the sentence that devout muslim can be true american is not logical whatsoever.

I vehemently disagree with the tenets of islam, but as a christian that has been on the receiving end of bigotry I will not do that to someone else.

Acid test: Replace the word Muslim with any other religious, cultural, or ethinic designation, and see if you feel the same way.

40 years ago, the word could have been Russian, or Vietnamese, or Chinese. 70 years ago, it might have been n*gger, Japanese, Buddhist. 100 years ago it might have been Jew or woman.

I can replace it with Commie and still feel the same way. I don't care if you're Russian, Vietnamese, a female, whatever... that's something you're born into and have no control over. Islam, Communism, etc. are beliefs... something you choose to believe in and be a part of, and something you can choose to NOT be a part of as well.

I'll admit I have my prejudices, but I see them for what they are, and try to look past them for the true character of the person I'm dealing with. Radical Islam is without a doubt a destructive force, but I have known many moderate/secular Muslims that were kind and generous people. The same can be said for most zealots....Westboro Baptist Church, anyone? They CLAIM to be Christians, but most would agree that their stated beliefs and actions belie that assertion.

The WBC people aren't truly following the word of the Bible... they're singling out bits and pieces that they like and ignoring the rest. The moderate/secular "Muslims" you know do the same exact thing, and are just as crazy in the eyes of true Muslims. They're taking bits and pieces of the Quran and ignoring the rest... they are not true Muslims.
The difference between the WBC people and "radical Islam" (incorrect name for it, and you'll see why) is that the WBC scum is, as I've said, taking bits and pieces out of the bible and twisting them into something else, and ignoring the rest. The "radical" Muslims on the other hand are taking the entire Quran and interpreting it directly, putting no twist on its words, and doing exactly what it says. They aren't radical, they're fundamental, and that is why you can NOT be both an American and a true Muslim.

Christianity has not declared a war against the West and specifically against the Great Satan (US/Americans).

Most of the translations MB had are different in my copy of the Quran. Weird how other languages aren't exact when translated, good thing the bible is different, and written in english, right?

If it wasn't for Christianity/Judaism, the modern medical industry wouldn't be what it is today. All hospitals were originally started by, maintained, and funded by churches. Only churches would take care of the sick, poor and orphaned.

Not to mention that the vast majority of charitable donations, food banks, etc, all come from religious organizations, particularly Christian and Jewish based ones.

You of course are entitled to your opinion, but religion STILL serves a pretty great purpose in modern society.
