Default Best rail for an AK?

I recentlly picked up a Romanian WASR 10 (my first AK). I'd like to put a picatinny or weaver rail on it for an optics mount. I also want to be able to use the iron sights after the optic is mounted. I've seen several mounts that go on the receiver cover or mount to the left side, but they all look pretty rickety and unlikely to hold zero.

I'd like to stay in the $100 range for the rail. I hear putting red dots on AKs can be a little tricky sometimes.

    Any suggestions?

TWS Dog Leg and/or UlitMAK, depending on where you want to mount your optic. UltiMAK will likely work better for cowitnessing depending on what optic you use.

I really, really liked the Midwest with the optic-specific topcovers.

Edit: I'm really liking that Dog-Leg, though! Use the rear sight as a hinge for the top cover with a rail, and then add a rear peep. So you end up with something easier to field strip and more sight radius.

a high quality european made side mount base will hold zero. at least mine does on my yugo m76 and the yugo side rail base is the same design as the russian mounts just make sure you get one that has an adjustable quick release lever

edit: i noticed you want to do a red dot, check out the pk-01 v, i've heard lots of good things about these plus they sit lower thank most russian optics allowing you to see your iron sights through the bottom 3rd of the scope

I have the TWS on my Saiga .223 with the rear peep. I'm definitely a fan. Except the finish wears off quickly.

Thank you all for your great suggestions. So far, I really like the POSP BP-02 (and the price) from eastwave. My only questions are these: do I need to buy additional hardward to mount it to the receiver and is it something I can do myself of would I need a gunsmith?

well i am going to guess and say you don't need any additional hardware, but that is assuming wasr-10's still come standard with a side rail
