This American Life: Police corruption from the top.

I had to email CPR (Colorado Public Radio) in order to find the link to this piece, but they finally got back to me about it.

I only heard the second half of the story about the police officer that went against his superiors order to illegal arrest people to make numbers. If you can listen to this without your blood boiling, you're not human.

Act 2 is the one about the corrupt police.

However, I'm listening to the first one and it is pretty gun heavy.


EDIT: I just listened to the first story, and it was pretty good and I think most people here would appreciate the story.

I've caught some **** for listening to NPR on here before, and these two stories are a great example of why I do.

The second story was well told and very sad for the young NYPD officer involved. He is fortunate to have his father watching his back and smart in that he was recording everything.

Another good aspect to this story is some insight to many who have never been in law enforcement. Just because you have a gun and a badge, does not make you immune from the system. It can often be more difficult to walk the line and be the type of public servant you swore you would be when you first entered the profession. No one is perfect, and putting on a badge certainly won't help you make better decisions. A phrase I was taught that didn't make too much sense when I first joined, but soon became all to real is: You can do everything right and still be wrong.

CompStat was an amazing tool when it was first introduced in NYC. It really was revolutionary to modern policing of big cities. This story highlighted what can happen when a good tool is over used or used incorrectly. I hope other departments can learn lessons from this story and adjust the way they do business.

Teaching for the test only gets good test results, not smarter students.

I'll consider it. I've found This American Life to generally be inane at best and trust very little of what it broadcasts.
