Very honorable of him and very honorable of the family to be so sympathetic and come to him to ask forgiveness. That is something you very rarely see in the world anymore.

Reminds me of an incident where we caught a 13 year old breaking in to cars in our apartment complex and jacking stereos. Neighbors held the kid while we called 911 and the LEOs should up. That night the kids dad showed up the apartments drunk screaming he was going to kick the peoples arses for touching his kid. (he didnt care his kid apparently was stealing stereos)

Short story LEO's showed up again and tazed his ass............we wondered if father and son got to go to court together??

I'm always sorry to hear about BG's trying to take advantage of older folks. But when they do it is awesome to hear when it's a war vet and they fight back and teach the BG's a lesson.

I wonder what gun it was...

    EDIT:

HAHAHA, I see what you did there
I'm guessing since the story said he pulled it out of a drawer it was a handgun. If it was a handgun, chances are high it was a 1911.

I'd like to buy the guy a new box of ammo. Good for him. And good for the bad guy's family for apologizing to the victim for the behavior of their scumbag family member.

According to the stories I read and a quick vid I found this morning the gun was a Luger. So something isn't quite right. Maybe it was a personal WWII German Luger he carried? I dunno, I'm not aware of many Germans fighting in Korea. Did the Soviets give their commie Korean allies captured German weapons? I do know they did with the Vietnamese during a later war, never heard that about Korea though.
In the vid, the old guy makes the statement that you can't hit anything with a .45, that the Luger was a better gun.

Glad he was able to take care of himself.

A quick websearch turned this up. Listen carefully: http://pittsburgh.cbslocal.com/2012/...e-on-intruder/

During the Korean conflict, some US Troops were issued Browning High-Power 9mm.... the Canadians had some from the end of WWII as well. Probably not all that common, but certainly not a rarity. A lot of folks used to, and still do, refer to the 9mm round it consumed as 9mm "Luger".

Perhaps this is what he is running?

    cwripinz,

Very good point made, and I'm sure you're correct. I took his statement literally, and for me, that was a head-scratcher.

He says "German Luger" in the video.

Here's the screen cap from the news report...looks like a 30 Luger. But more importantly, this case is outside and he says he fired from inside, so is this just a random picture the news used? If it is a random stock image than this news channel did their homework...

Some Hi Powers were manufactured in 30 Luger...but were any issued to troops in that caliber?

And whatever gun it is, they better give it back to him once the investigation is complete.

Could it be a gun he picked up off a dead Korean? Seems easier to smuggle back than a service issue.
