Default Glock 3rd Gen vs 4th Gen - Hand Size

Everyone says that if you have small hands, you'd like the 4th Gen, and if you have large hands, you'd like the 3rd Gen. So I have a three part questions:

    1) What length are you hands (measured from first wrist line to middle finger) because I have no idea what "normal" is
    2) Do you consider your hands large, medium, or small?
    3) Which generation do you prefer (PURELY BASED ON SIZE)?

    I'll go first.

    1) 7 and 5/8 inches
    2) Medium on the small side
    3) Only have shot 3rd gen, but I have a feeling I'd like 4th gen.

The gen4's can be made to feel a bit smaller than the gen3's, same size, or a bit larger.

Think SF, small frame and large frame grip sizes.

I have large hands (XXL gloves) and I like G4's w/o straps.

I have 7 1/4-7 3/8, Small side of medium for my hands I'd say.

I do not like the G4 w/o straps. I prefer the feel of the 3rd gen or G4 with medium.

short stubby fingers find the mag release much easier to get to on the 4th gen. the new style mag release is easier accessed than a gen 3 with extended mag release (it's wider, and reaches further back on the pistol). I think the new release is an improvement over previous models.

for overall grip on the frame I still prefer the gen2. gen4 with the large grip is what felt the best when I ran the 4. I prefer gen2 because I don't like the ridges on the front of the frame. (I hope the finger ridge thing is a fashion statement on its way out of style- don't see it on many other new competing models)

    wrist to fingertip is 7.5in.

Default I wear a large glove and love my gen 3

It was comfortable when I picked it up the first time. I choose a gen 3 9 mm over the 4th, because it felt better. I was lucky and had a friend with a few different Glocks.

Default Gen 3 vs Gen 4

    1. 7 and 1/8"
    2. Semi-large (XL glove)
    3. Gen 3

Love Gen 3 but you need to see how the Gen 4 fits you. I have Gen 3 G23 and G22.

I have run 200 rds through a Gen 3 G17 and loved it. I wish it was mine! Then I ran with a Gen 4 G17 and it wasn't so far off the Gen 3.

Either way, what feels good for you is what is best.

I think the trigger is shorter (ie SF) on certain Gen 4's but I'm not a GA. Those boys know their sh&t.

interesting one guy thinks 7 5/8 is medium/small and another thinks 7 1/8 is "semi large."

i didn't measure, but i generally wear a medium glove and like the gen 3's in 17/22, but didn't like the larger 20 and 21, but that was remedied with the SF frame, which is a much better fit for a smaller hand.

not to derail your thread, but i always thought the XD felt better. I'm not saying its better or starting a glock/XD pissing contest--just personal impressions of relatively similar guns

My hands measure 8 1/4" and I consider them very large. Sometimes hard to find gloves big enough.

I know that I had a Glock 21 3rd Gen and added the Hogue wrap around grip gloves and the feel was great for me.

I also know that my wife's G19 Gen 4 is way too small, even with the large backstrap.

My large hands have caused me some challenges in finding a good fitting pistol.
