HELP!! What can I do with my Shotgun?

Ok, I have a Maverick 88. I wanted a 500 but I hate the safety there. I probably should have got a 870, but I got a good deal. All the parts are compatible with the Mossberg 500 except for the forend.
Just picked up a 18" barrel today. Already have the Blackhawk Knoxx Spec-Ops Shotgun Stock that i recoil reducing.

I am thinking of ordering the 7 5/8" action slide tube for the shotgun so that I can use decent 500 forends with rails possibly.
I am also thinking of gettng a barrel shroud.
Probably should get a mag tube extension.

If you have done this before.. please tell me what way would you go for a tactical shotgun?

Put a VFG on the fore end. More tacticool than useful on rifles, but on pumps it does make it easier and faster to manipulate the fore end.

A pistol grip stock that is both strong and comfortable. If there are smaller members on your "team" or you ever use body armor for whatever reason, find one that's adjustable. Otherwise a fixed stock is just fine.

Keep the ammo separate from the weapon... the speed gained from ammo saddles and speedfeed stocks and whatnot is not enough to outweigh the downside of the extra weight and bulkiness. If you must do it though, the best place is a saddle mounted on the receiver, and the smaller the better.

No fancy sights needed for shot... don't waste your money on ghost rings and all that crap. If you plan on using slugs, rifle sites are the best as far as irons go... they're simple and you will have a commonality of sight systems with your handgun in the same close quarters environment. Or even better, put a rail on the top of the receiver and throw a dot on there like the Trijicon RMR. Please, stay away from ghost rings though.

A light is also nice to have. With a railed fore end, you can easily put a VFG and a light on there.

Here is how the shotgun sits as of now. I also have a 28" vented barrel that I will probably sell to fund this.




I feel like I am dropping too much $$ into this cheap gun, but whatever..
I ordered the new rails.
Ordered a trirail forend for the mossberg 500.
I have an extra tactical flashlight with mount.

I am looking at the VFG right now and there are too many to choose from. I like the ones that fold so that they will fit in a case and I wont have to detach them everytime I put it in the case which I do with my AR..

I don't know about rifle sights I will have to bring it to BP to get them put on there since they would not just replace the dot on there now? So it might be just as cheap to get a rail and put a reflex or red dot.
What is the easiest way to get sights on here?

Does the barrel shroud look good I have never owned one?
Is there a mag tube that wont go past the 18" barrel? i just see the ones that will match with the 20" barrels.
Also any other things you would recommend to put on it?

That stocks looks a bit fragile...

Try to avoid the folding VFGs. Remember, you're going to be pushing and pulling on this in a potentially high-stress, adrenaline-fueled situation. If you need the ability to detach it easily, find one with a QD mount... if you do that, make sure to mark the spot on the rails that you like it at so you can keep the placement consistent.

BP can help you out with putting rifle sights on there. As for a dot... you'll still need the rail to be mounted by a gunsmith to make sure it's aligned properly (it can be done yourself, but you need to know what you're doing). A good dot will be twice as much as good rifle sights are, likely more. The Trijicon RMR (IMO the best dot on the market right now) will run you around $400 or more. There are cheaper dots out there, and they're cheap for a reason... don't be niggardly (I learned a new word ) in your gear selection. If you can't afford the best stuff, save until you can... you'll be much happier in the long run.

Do barrel shrouds look good? Yeah, I think they look tacticool... so what? Its expense and weight that you don't need. Its a solution to a problem you don't have... pointless equipment for the sake of looking cool. If you want to spend your money on one, more power to ya, but I wouldn't put one on anything I own. YMMV.

As far as I know, you can't extend the mag tube on a Mav88/Moss500. I could be wrong. If it were me I'd put the one that matches the 20" barrel on and cut your barrel to match... return the 18" barrel you bought and use the funds for that mag tube.

Please tell me you put that trigger lock on there for the sake of the picture and don't actually keep a lock on your home defense gun?

Not slighting your Maverick, they are a decent little shotty that fills a niche. But by the time you have Tac'd it all out and tweaked this and that you are going to be invested to the point of a 500 or 870. You are limited on tube capacity due to the design of the barrel lug and tube configuration. To change those two items alone you will be pushing 2 bills in parts and labor.
Sometimes re inventing the wheel is not cost effective in the long run.

I took the wood piece out of the mag tube, now it is a 5+1. Thats good enough for me. This is not my home defense gun.

As silly as this sounds this is going to be a display gun. My brother bought me a glass display gas that says "break in case of zombies." I figured if I could spend less than $300-$400 on a shotgun that is real. I am fine having it sit instead of using a fake or airsoft gun.

$100 for gun, $75 for stock, $50 for rails and forend = $225.

Even though it would be sweet to get rifle sights, itll be more than the gun is worth..

I am going to get the gun painted or do it myself.

I think I will do a side saddle for the looks and put empty folded shells.

Frankenstein, the Mummy, Zombies, how do creatures that move that slow manage to kill so many!, I am 61 years old now, I first noticed the silly ,slow moving bastards over 50 years ago, and they are still a problem, another funny thing, all those critters are brain dead, but live humans always act that way by getting trapped in blind alleys, basements!, well, back to sgn's, anything you sgoot up close with a 12 gauge, a $75 one or a $7500 one will not be able to tell the difference! cheaper is better, but 1 in every room!

Screw the gun locks, just pull the bolt and keep it in the safe.

A flashlight, Side saddle and a hi viz front sight would do wonders for tactical.

For a zombie movie gun it needs a laser sight a bayonet chainsaw and a scope.
