even with documented non-mexicans with muslim prayer mats and other islamic items with them, this administration, and the last and plenty before them have no issue with the porous border and the violence that comes with it. heck, they're so hostile to border enforcement when someone in AZ tries to do their job for them they end up suing...
The piece of culture reference/history is missing from this thread.
My wife is from Mexico, she said you grew up in Mexico just to naturally not trust the police (they are the biggest crooks especially with foreigners) and definitely not the government. She said you cant even trust the postal service cause your packages would disappear.
Why? They were all paid to look the other way for so many generations and now the current president is trying to buck that trend. He is either brave or has a death wish. It is a fight that we cant/shouldn't really enter unless we figure out how to get rid of the demand for illegal drugs coming from those that are causing the problem, if they had no market their money would dry up. Defend our borders better, definitely..........
IN the meantime high paid ex military running security and training to the cartels and a government (under trained) soldier that is paid little money. The news media down there cant even be honest or they get beheaded.
My wife owns a condo down there and her parents are staying in there. Visit Mexico oh hell NO, not for awhile.
"The rifle itself has no moral stature, since it has no will of its own. Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles. --Jeff Cooper"
My feedback
I wrote one of my master papers on Mexico being the greatest threat to our national security. Those numbers posted are low. I will have to dig out my paper to see what was reported last year when I wrote the paper.
Another thing is that there is evidence that the drug cartels are trading drugs/money for training in both bomb making and insurgent techniques. There was a spike in the amount of attacks as well as the sophistication of the attacks.
I agree with you Ronin, the border is too relaxed and offers too much of a target for our enemies as the war in Afghanistan begins to wind down.
Personally I don't think we will ever have a solution due to the politics involved. Until an attack comes through Mexico on a large scale, not just people here and there dying on our side of the border.
I see the reason as there are no real 'resources' that are being disrupted from Mexico, and immigration being such a hot political button, they won't touch it.
I guess I didn't see this one- my dad just went to Mexico a couple weeks ago for a golf trip (I know, right!?) and he said not once did they fear for their lives or encounter anything that looked dangerous. They went to Puerto Vallarta by the way.
And the second part, I had that idea years ago- all the land mines we recovered from Afghanistan would be put to better use on the border, and believe me there are hundreds of thousands... those Russians were busy!
You mean to tell me that the media is reporting lower numbers of deaths than the truth? Color me shocked! There has been way too much evidence lately to show that we need to stop being such big pussies and actually secure the border, drugs are a big part, but guns, money, sex, terrorists, all that goes back and forth pretty freely and all leads down a road to ruin. My plans to secure the border would be a little too controversial though. Like that Wycleff Jean song goes: "If I was president I'd be elected on Monday and assassinated on Friday."

I want nothing to do with helping out Mexico. I would rather plant land mines and erect a monster electric fence that is guarded with sentry guns than to send our troops to that corrupt fuck-up of a country.
Jeeez, you can't even call an illegal alien an "illegal alien" with being called a racist or worse. Good luck in getting a politician to actively secure the border.
I saw O'Reilly interview this activist the other day who claimed that simply calling an illegal alien an "illegal alien" is a "hate crime".
The pussyfication continues.
