Default MINI remote controlled flying units, discuss

I'm seeing these mini flying units that have a camera on them. Supposedly great for surveillance, looking at the neighborhood, etc
Anyone have first hand experience with them, if so recommendations on purchase?

The first one you posted is awesome, however with a price of between 14k-30k depending on options it really puts it out of range for most people.

I've been looking at putting together a quad copter for myself to do some video work. I think I could build a pretty decent unit for around the cost of a decent AR.

Just an idea for neighborhood recon.. All part of the survival / prepardnass ideas we read about. I posted here first. The price point on a basic entry unit (2nd link) looks like an entry item. Like guns there are starting points then addition of accessories or just go for broke from the get go.

Anyone have hands on with this one? This is along the lines of low profile i'm looking for. Down side is i'm not I- anything possession and really don't want to be. If it was kindle fire friendly even better.

There's android control apps for it.

I don't have personal experience with it, but I hear good reviews

You could mount a cam on a trex 450-600 way cheaper, and that's including buying everything you need (electronics, Batterys, TX/RX).

Well, if SHTF I doubt any cell towers would be working anyhow, so no APP will work. Better off with a straight up radio control unit..

I would agree with wax, the spread spectrum controlers are way beeter than the old analog FM band transmitters. Spektrum (JR) makes a great controler. I have the DX7 and once you get use to the quick response its awesome.
