This is getting a bit ridiculous unless the evidence

Hot button topic. Like gays, civil unions/ marriage. The potential to charge him with a hate crime allows the justice system to use a wide brush for prosecution. They need to prove (not beyond a reasonable doubt) some malice based on color was involved. It will be easier to get a conviction on a hate crime (resulting in death) than the questionable charge he has now.
PLUS a federal charge allows the .gov to try the case in any federal court in the country. Put the case other than FL (as the defense asked for) in a state where hate crime charges carry the maximum such as CA (SF fed district ct) and he goes away for many years. Try the case at a state level and maybe 3-5 if found guilty on a lesser manslaughter charge.

ALSO keep in mind this case is tied in to GUN CONTROL. The objection to the FL Stand your Ground Law has broad support. Courtesy of the same gun owners who feel there is nothing wrong with "Sensible Gun Laws" Find Zimmerman guilty and the groundswell to repeal SYG will be the foundation in O's second term to move hard on all guns, ammo and ownership.

I'm certainly a lot more moderate/liberal than most folks here, but man, I hate the concept of a hate crime. A criminal act is just that - prosecute a perp for that, but don't make up some stupid hate crime bullshit.

Last I checked I didn't think it was illegal to hate people, hate crimes is such crap I mean if someone does a crime they do a crime, why should it matter what motivated them besides the differences between manslaughter, murder 2 and murder 1. I hate communists (my signature is a joke by the way lol) so if I beat up a o-bot would I get in even more trouble than if I beat up a regular person? Lol

His medical intake report was just released yesterday, showing conclusively that he suffered a gash in the back of his head, a broken nose, two black eyes, a possible concussion, and other lesser injuries. There was definitely a fight and he was definitely getting his ass kicked before firing his weapon.
