Who knows where this was taken? I took it today. You get a big "attaboy!" if you know.

OK, baring my soul here...don't hold it against me.

This thread is awesome for me. I held off from replying for a while because I wanted to see all of the responses. You see, I am a reformed "neo-hippie". I have infiltrated your ranks! Muaahhhhahahhahahaa!

In the days of my youth I attended at least 100 Phish/Dead/WSP/STI concerts, was an "environmentalist" (majored in environmental geology), had long hair, drove a '71 VW camper van for many years, was against Desert Storm because it was "only for oil" and smoked more pot and ate more mushrooms in 10 years than I can even fathom. I had 49 pot plants growing in my basement for years - 50 plants got you a mandatory minimum in those days. Now you're a "caregiver" LOL. I also grew mushies for a few years, very well I might add. I'm not proud of all this. I never did sell any pot or mushrooms or like being dirty or smelly - I am proud of that! It was all for personal use.

Interestingly enough, I always loved guns and hunting. I rarely mentioned these things to my "friends". Camping, fishing, four-wheelin, etc. were also passions of mine since I was a kid. Neo-hippies would always say "catching fish and hunting is cruel". <sigh>

I was always disappointed when I went to a Phish show and saw all of the trash left behind when I was driving out. I was disappointed when I heard about this guy or that girl screwing someone over somehow, which happened all the time. I was disappointed when the girl I thought was my girlfriend banged my "friend" one night and she said "what's the big deal" when I confronted her about it. He didn't think it was a big deal either. Never spoke to him again. I was always disappointed with the people I was hanging around with.

Then I graduated college, got a job, and the real world set in. I started to actually learn about politics and economics on my own and had a great awakening. I read many, many books. I started to become <gasp> a conservative! But I wasn't really changed, just thinking about stuff more.

When 9/11 happened, it was a serious game changer. I'm from New York, but lived in CO when it went down. It was about a full day before I could even get in touch with anyone I knew in NY. My whole family was there (not NYC, but close and family worked in NYC). I was DEVASTATED when this happened. It was an instant transformation into "conservative/rugged individualist". I said to myself, "No fucking around now. Things are different. Live in the real world asshole."

It wasn't a hard change really. I just started to listed to Mike Rosen more and read conservative publications like the Weekly Standard, etc. I learned more and more and realized that I was fucking fool when I was younger. What a waste!

Now I keep in touch with exactly 1 guy from the "old days". He's a former NYer (from Brooklyn) living in CO, and a reformed "neo-hippie" as well. Funny how something that hit's you hard in the heart can change you forever like that.

Anyway, I have a small bit of pity for "neo-hippies". They just don't know what the real world is like. They are so easy to make fun of though.

Reminds me of the time my wife wanted to go to WHOLE FOODS. Me and my son where waiting for her by an aisle of some Gluten Free crap and he makes this horrid face and says "Ewwww, what's that smell dad?" I said one word...."Hippies!"
Now when he sees that store he says "That store smells like hippies."

This reminds me of a time I took my 2 sons to Tokyo joes years ago. My youngest was about 4-5 then and asked me why the milk said organic and looked funny, I told him because it was hippie milk, he looked at the guy working the register (who had dreds and looked the part) and said totally straight faced and serious "curse you hippies!" I laughed for days about that one, god I love that boy.

Interesting story. Life can take a lot of turns for sure. So maybe your last hurdle towards complete reformation is to get further away from Nederland I kid.

No way. I LOVE it up here, hippies aside. They don't bother me until they start doing the protest thing or start begging...I never did either of those things.

Having to go down to "the city" makes me throw up in my mouth a little.

A lot of my clients are paying cash for 400K plus homes in bailey,

many of the old timers have actually commented to me about how the atmosphere in bailey has changed, some of the old hippies in neighborhoods not to be mentioned have described it as having "lost its edge"

I think a lot of preppers are termed as hippies but I don't think so. Living a self sustainable life is just something we share with the hippies.

Welcome to the winning team Gilpin! I still go to STS9 shows and I'm friends with a lot of those neo-hippies, it is the music that binds us... ugh... I can't pick and choose what's pleasing to my ears, it's the same with Electronic music, I don't want to be associated with 17 year old girls who dress like pornstars (not the good kind either), have glow sticks coming out of God knows where, and pacifiers in their mouths, but again, I love the music and nothing beats the live versions. To my hippie friends I'm just that abrasive, conservative (ish), gun loving friend, and some actually have said that they feel safe around me because of my oft-frightening love of firearms.
