Yes...we all choose to live where we do to one extent or the other. But how come no one ever says, "It sucks that your house got broken into but, hey, you chose to live in the city with all the criminals."
I couldn't have said it better, When was the last time we had a tragic fire that was set by mother nature. all in recent memory have been human, and most by either a firefighter or forest service worker of some type

Az, 2011, the big one, my family members were evacuated, human caused

I don't call these wildfires, they are dumbass human fires, truth is a true "wildfire" occurs very rarely. Take the dumbass humans out of the equation and the chance of a forest fire goes down to near 0.

To think that your house is more likely to burn down in the city than in the mountains is just dumb. The number of house fires that occur in the city with the density of population far exceeds the number of house fires in mountain communities. your house is more likely to be damaged due to your neighbors house fire than to get caught in a wild fire.

truth be told areas like Bailey that have survived a wildfire or two are actually in better shape. I am of course sorry for those that have lost their homes in the Hayman and Hi meadow fires and the like, but in reality the amount of fuel that surrounds the Bailey community has been greatly reduced. Everything to the one side of Bailey has been burned out.

Lets add up the places that are dangerous to live and the reason why,

Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Tennesee, Etc.................Tornadoes...Well it was their choice to live there

Louisiana, Texas, Florida, Alabama, N Caorlina, S Carolina, Etc............. Hurricanes, well it was their choice to live there

Wisconsin, NY state, all of the North eastern states, Etc. ..................Massive crippling cold and snow. well it was their choice to live there

California,..................Earthquakes........... well it was their choice to live there

Denver.....................Blizzards.(remember 2003).................well it was their choice to live there

To not live someplace you love and enjoy because something might happen is just dumb, bad things happen all over the world. I would rather spend some time mitigating my four acres with a view than live in the city with the crime, traffic, smog, noise, neighbors so close you can hear you neighbors fart.

I'll take my view and my chances any day any time

Sounds like they're saying this one could have been caused by a cigarette. Ugh.

I see folks tossing cigs out their window in Clear Creek Canyon all the time - on their way to/from Black Hawk. City folks not thinking...grrrrrrrrrr!
