His schedule is usually booked a month or 2 out, but that's a good thing, you always gotta wonder about the guy that can get you right in, there's a reason for that.

If you can walk in..... walk out. Guys with skill schedule well into the future. Don't be cheap, good tattoo monkeys are as expensive as good grease monkeys.

Usually an appointment cancels OR like me you leave X amount of time open for walk ins. I always left 50% of my day open, i could put out walk in designs or off the wall flash at a good pace. There is more money in the walk in trade than custom work, in the right area.
Appointments bring you a set amount of cash flow per hour, day week.
With walks in's you can do a basic name ,up to the start of a clients back, calf or sleeve. To question why an artist is not booked or busy when you walk in the door, shows you have no concept how the tattoo industry works. Or you have been watching too many reality shows.

I agree. Dumb TV shows like Miami Ink and such have made people think that if you aren't a few weeks out on your appointments then you aren't doing good work. Most legit artists plan to leave time open for walk-ins for easier pieces just like you said. To judge an artist based on the fact that you can walk in and just start planning out a piece is not right.

True enough. I can't even get in to see my favourite artist. He's booked out two years, and isn't accepting any new clients...
