Default New Ruger SR1911 range report

After a year long wait I finally got an SR1911.

Got to the range yesterday and am very pleased with the results. I shot it alongside my Colt XSE and got better groups with it even though it has a slightly heavier trigger than the Colt (Ruger-4lbs 10oz, Colt 4lbs 6oz.).

The recoil spring in the Ruger is noticably heavier than the 16lb Wolf spring in the Colt and helped controllability on follow up shots. I put 300 rounds through it and had only one minor issue. On the first mag change the mag release stuck in the depressed position. I put a drop of oil on it and I never had another issue with it.

I shot Hornady TAP HP's, Federal Hydra-Shok, Remington jacketed HP's and Winchester FMJ (all 230 gr.) I used the Ruger factory, Wilson, Chip McCormick, ACT and Colt mags. Never had a failure to feed, fire or eject. Fired cases landed at about five o'clock and 10 feet from the gun.

At seven yards offhand I put 19 rounds into one ragged hole and from a bench at 25 yards I got several 3" groups. At 50 yards from the bench I was routinely hitting clay birds. I'm very happly with this Ruger.

When they get them in Green Mtn. Guns charges $629. But as of last week there were 98 on the waiting list.

BTW, I had gotten tired of waiting and had decided to give up on a Ruger and get a SA Range Officer instead. I was heading for the door to do so when I got the call for the Ruger. Luck or what!

Following up since I got one about a month ago. I haven't had time to shoot it yet but wanted to see how everyone was doing with theirs. I had never considered a Ruger 1911 until I held it and checked the fit, needless to say I can't wait to see what she does. I'm also making a set of bocote slim grips and thinking about having the front strap checkered.

I want to do the same thing done to mine, as soon as I can afford to take it to Bert.
The fit and finish is as good as , if not better than my Springfield Armory 1911s, and accuracy is better than I am.
My T.P. wheeling and dealing feedback is here.

Opinions are like assholes, everybody has one, and it stinks more than mine.

    Default Ruger SR1911

Just took one in one trade, NICE! Great trigger pull and very accurate! This is one that was made a while back, when Ruger wasn't so backlogged and they could spend a little more time putting them together. I guess the Sportsman's has them for 699.00 and Gander has them for 749.00 (don't quote me on these prices).

    What a great shooter!
