Tonight feels like a straight Wild Turkey 101 kind of night.

A friend of mine got a Groupon deal to Cockpit Craft Distillery here in Colorado Springs (interested parties can get the same deal here).
We got a tour, tasting and a drink from their bar (the bartender is a nice lady that used to do private bartending at the Broadmoor and makes some interesting drinks, including the Old Fashioned I had where she started out burning a piece of maple under the glass) and a free glass.
They do a bourbon-esque whisky called P-51 that is pretty darn good (I ended up buying a bottle), and tonite I finally cracked it open and had a glass on the rocks, then tried it with Vanilla Coke (Bourbon, usually Maker's & Vanilla Coke is kind of my "house drink" ... the vanilla brings out interesting flavors in the whiskey) and it was extremely good that way (good just on the rocks too). They also do several Rums which were pretty good and a white "moonshine" grain alcohol called P-38 that I really liked (if you're in to that sort of thing).
Anyway, they're well worth checking out (and the bar is made from the tail of a C45 (Beechcraft M18) that flew supplies to Marines in the Pacific during WWII).

Modern liberalism is based on the idea that reality is obligated to conform to one's beliefs because; "I have the right to believe whatever I want".

Picked this up on a lark. Not my thing. Too sweet. Might make a good Manhattan.

Actually, I suffered a broken neck in 1981 and since then alcohol gives me terrible headaches at the back of my head where the injury was at C1. And after my gastric bypass surgery my system doesn't process alcohol normally, the buzz hits fast and hard, and so does the headache.
So essentially - I drink, I suffer. No drink, no suffer. So if I do, it's in very small amounts. Makes me a little sad.....

Today I got together with friends to bottle our 2016 Riesling. They grow and pick the grapes, then bring them to me to crush and de-stem the clusters. I have all the winery equipment and make the wine. When it's finished, aged, and all the sediments are racked off, then we get together to filter and bottle.
The 2016 crop was smaller but of good quality. I used different wine yeasts this time and we're happy with the results. It's tart and fruity as a Riesling should be. My share is 74 bottles which should keep us sippin' for a while.![]()
Knob Creek single barrel. This is damn good juice.

Like rondog, I rarely consume alcohol anymore. It seems I've lost a taste for it.
That said, I'm happy to maintain my collection of liquor and while I haven't bought any for a few years I've been able to increase/enhance that collection with some fine scotches given to my wife and I as gifts. This week we received a bottle of of 10 year old Laphroaig. Should my tastes or interest in consuming again change, I'll have some good stuff to sip on for a while.
