Got this Liqor de Cafe on our vacation in Mex last summer.
Great stuff and smooth. Base is Tequila, much more coffee flavor than Kahlua or Baileys, plus more alcohol. So now I've been experimenting with making my own.
1st batch was more of a rough guess of adding a bunch of coffee grounds to tequila, letting set a couple of days, then straining. After that I added some simple syrup and had a go. Was good, a little bit rougher and slightly more bitter that the original. The sugar water does well to cut the alcohol content in half and mellow the tequila flavor. It makes some truly dangerous stuff, easy drinkin and potent. The family universally loves it. Now I have formed a recipe for the second batch.
1 Liter White Tequila
1 Cup ground coffee (dark roast)
mix and let sit for a couple of days. After that I will be adding
2 cups Water
1 cup brown sugar
2-3 tablespoons vanilla extract.
Then I proceed to drink vigorously. Will keep you all updated on how it turns out. For my gringo friends out there, "Liqor de Cafe" is mexican for "Coffee Booze". The latter is what I will be calling my creation from now on.
