As we sat last Wed. watching our young cousin take the oath at the USAFA graduation you could not help but reflect on the future of those young men and what they soon face.

My son was very impressed by their fancy uniforms and snappy hats. He is too old to have participated in the gathering of the hats after the ceremony so his sisters each went down and got to retrieve one. As he lamented about not being able to have one I reminded him that there is always another way to get one of his own. You can always earn one I told him.

I grew up in a time where the service of our military men and women was not so hard pressed to be put in harms way. I was not drawn to serve due to the relative peace we lived in.

I have watched as my young children have grown and have come to a place where I realize how precious our way of life is and how hard my grandfathers on both sides of my family and my wife' family fought to preserve that life. I appreciate their sacrifices more every day.

I sat with Uncle bud this week and talked with him about life and politics and his Grand nephew that just graduated from USAFA. Bud is 93 now and a true war hero nearing his final days. I make time for him whenever we are together, he tends to sit out of the way now as he does not get around like he used to and just watches the family.

He is a true war hero and has the medals to honor his time in the Navy.

To all the Uncle buds that sit and watch after a life of honor and sacrifice and hard work,

    THANK YOU

This about sums it up Lets just show them the appreciation they deserve.

The one picture of the old man standing up from his wheelchair does it for me.
I pray I can still get up and salute Old Glory in my elder years.
