Default concealed carry permit to get training?

    Nope - don't have one

But I was thinking about getting one as "proof" of being a good guy for taking some Mag 40 classes. Taking a class from Massad Ayob is on one of those lists of things to do after the first time I heard him speak.

Until I get the training - I figure I just don't have all the information I need to make that sort of choice.

Is there any down side for getting one even if you don't end up ever concealed carrying? Not too worry about being on some sort of "list" - heck, ex military so I know I am on a few folks lists.

I'm confused. You need proof of being a good guy to take a Mag 40 class? As for getting a permit, there aren't really downsides, especially if you don't plan on carrying but if you do carry, there's the responsibility that comes with possessing a handgun in public.

Some folks as long as your check has cleared - your a good guy in their books.

Just cut and pasted from their website:
Due to the nature of our instruction, it is necessary to provide us with one or more of the following:

    a. Current State Issued Permit to carry a concealed handgun

    b. Current FFL – Federal Firearms License

    c. Current FOID Card (Illinois Residents only)

    d. Current Police or Military ID

    e. Other current proof of clean criminal record. Most sheriff’s departments will run these for you at a nominal fee, done routinely in many occupations

I could take option "e." - but figure if I am going to do that - I might as well go "whole hog".

There is a whole heck of a lot of responsibility - which is why I would want some of the best training well before I would consider CC.

There is also a lot of responsibly along with driving a car. I'm sure you weren't taught to drive by the King himself Richard Petty, but yet you get behind the wheel.

I also am confused by this thread.

Well - being confused for threads I start - that happens more often than not.

-> my goal is get training - and I hope sometime a mag 40 class. There was one mag 20 lecture class a few years back in Colorado - but I was not able to attend.

-> Will mag 40 be the only class I will ever take? Nope, with luck I will find some quality classes in the Springs - even if it is the basic 101 stuff from the NRA.

-> Does taking any of the Mag 40 classes have odd requirements to some? Yep -

-> Did the "king" teach me to drive? Nope, my Dad did. Along with how to work a tractor and a JD bulldozer But more to the subject, I did have 6 months of drivers eduction class before I got behind a car - so yes, I did receive some good training.

I think my question about a down side to having concealed license was answered. No down side for having one if you never intend to carry.

No Downside to having a CCW, you will have to have some class (NRA Basic Pistol, etc) to Obtain your CCW. You mentioned you were ex mili, I think its ether 5-10 years after departure date you can get your CCW without having to take a class. Nothing is wrong with wanting to have more training under your belt!
