Polishing

So I polished my barrel last night and it came out great. Now im thinking about polishing my slide but I'm not sure if I want to remove my sights because I was shooting nickels last weekend at 35 feet, can it be done with the sights on? Also I'm somewhat worried about rust do you think polished slides will rust easier?

yes- glock slides have a tenifer treatment and then a black oxide treatment- both protect the metal.

I have a dent/scratch/booboo on my slide that went deep enough to reveal the shiny steel underneath- it rusted when exposed to my salt and vinager chip hands and rain.

polishing all the protective treatments off leaves unprotected steel. just spraypaint the thing silver with the sights taped- bling bling achieved

polishing compound is just fine liquid sandpaper.

reading more on the tenifer treatment below the black oxide- maybe you would be OK polishing- treatment is said by others on here to be more than a surface treatment-

then again- the ding on mine DID rust- but it is muh deeper into the metal than polishing would go.

go for it- if it rusts sell it to me on the cheap

ok I started at this point I was at 600 grit sand paper Im now working with 2000 grit and almost done and then I will start polishing with the dremel and I will also polish the internals

I wouldn't polish the internals- remember what you are doing is purely aesthetic- you are partially destroying this gun for bling factor- nobody sees the insides... don't risk it
