May have. Shakes take the small impacts well, but after too many on one board, they dry out and split. If you go up and look at them close, look for small impact marks. I forget the standard per shake, but if you see the boards are cracking after a couple of days, its from getting pounded.
I roofed houses for a living for a while way back when in my younger days up in the Ft Collins area. If you get it re-roofed and can swing it, get imperial shingles. They are the next best thing to T-locks which are just about extinct.

Apparently I have some kind of super shaker roof. Got some hail damage a couple of years ago and have five guys come out because I wanted to get a new roof and they all said it was really high grade shakers and other than a few splits the insurance company basically gave me $2K to fix the damage and move on - which is funny because they charge me a VERY high premium for shakers because of the fire danger.

Then you probably have Premium grade shakes or #1 grade wood shingles. If they are cedar, then they are shakes. If they are another wood, they are wood shingles. Either way, you probably also have the thickest grade and more than likely the longest length. If they were installed correctly, they will outlast asphalt shingles, but my god, do they cost an ass load to install the high quality stuff. If you have them, don't be in too much of a hurry to change them. I've seen the highest quality shakes and wood shingles literally take golfball sized hail on and just shrug it off. They can last 50+ years as long as nothing catastrophic happens.

If anyone needs some work done or replacement on their roof, send me a PM and I'll get you taken care of!

Well, part two tonight. 5 mi. N of Peyton, and nothing last night or tonight. Great lightning views, but not even a drop of rain. Good luck, everyone.

The hail last night tore up our driveway. Like, chunks missing. I'll get some pics tomorrow.
