I added the "if applicable" to mean if it happened outside the home I would mention I don't consent to a search of there, I should have clarified. But thanks for the rest there, I fixed my template to include don't hang up, I just don't want to set myself up for failure by putting myself in a position to say more than I need to...

Totally get it. But put yourself in the dispatcher and cop's shoes...

You've got a guy that just said "my life was in danger" and "shots were fired."

The assumption is going to be, "This guy just shot someone" and "there are weapons involved."

If you hang up... Now they don't know where or who you are. They also don't know where at least one of the guns/weapons is.

It would put the police at ease to know where you are till they get there.

Well according to his plan he just gave them all of this information, minus maybe adding I will be sitting on my front porch if it were to have happened at home but he did give them his info and an address or location. I realize this is just an anticipated scenario but if it was real you have to add a great deal of stress and anxiety to this. I would think if they kept you on the phone and talking you would potentially say something that could be construed as incriminating towards yourself.

Yes, and that is a very scary thing, because as a cop friend once told me "EVERYTHING you say WILL be used against you in court, yes, even 911 tapes." Saying as little as possible is the best choice, but when you're in a stressful situation and adrenaline and anxiety is involved you will spill more beans that you probably intend... This is all a very crazy dilemma that I pray I never have to go through. I guess train train train, and when you're done with that, change things up a bit and train some more.

Well, I 've tried a few times, but never really got a good answer:
I do not have a lawyer on speed call, so to speak.
I need somebody to refer me to a lawyer that, God forbid, I can call in a similar scenario.
If you do not feel comfortable posting the info feel free to PM me.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

His plan is great. But there are going to be a ton of questions coming from the dispatcher... They're gonna wanna know who is shot and how many. Are they still alive... Blah blah... It's just better to stay on the phone and answer every question except "what happened."

Sorry had to... Of course I'm going to answer any pertinent questions I can that the dispatcher asks- I did grow up around the fire department up in Evergreen and have on many occasions made friends with the dispatchers up here. Of course one has to remain cognizant of what they're saying.

As for what to say after a traumatic incident, that depends on the incident, but the best all round, all purpose answer is: I'm not feeling well. I'd like to go to the hospital. While there and waiting to be seen and checked out, call a friend/family member (wife or clergy member) you trust and/or your lawyer. Lawyers are the best in these situations because they cannot be made to testify against you later regarding what you say. Let your lawyer do your talking for you. That is what you are paying them to do for you.

    Be safe.
