Call some of those places and see if they do vets. Or call the VA and ask what and where there is for you to do. Even if it's not for the VA, they will usually recommend something worth while.

I had fun doing Habitat for Humanity. I think it IS Section 8 BS though. You might see if the Tough Mudder needs volunteers for this year's race. I'm pretty sure it is related to Wounded Warrior.

Check with the churches. Ask if they know of someone that needs some help. The pastors or preachers usually know who in their church can use some help. If you check with the churches around and on military bases they would be more likely to know of veterans.

Found one yesterday that sounded good with Operation Homefront, and we would stuff backpacks with supplies, and hand out school supplies to kids at Buckley.

I just volunteered to do photo work for a group called Extreme Community Makeover. My grandson's lacrosse program at High School had all four of their teams involved one Saturday, and the wife and I went along. Kids & coaches worked their asses off, and had a lot of fun. Helped a lot of people too.

This group concentrates in West Denver neighborhoods, and will do damn near anything for people that can't do it themselves or hire it done, within reason. Mainly elderly, handicapped, or poor folks, but they'll do work for anybody that will accept it.

Light stuff like yardwork, tree/bush trimming, light landscaping, yard cleanups, house painting, minor construction like fixing porches & railings, replacing steps, cleaning out garages, stuff like that. They don't do specialized stuff like roofing, or building wheelchair ramps, or heavier construction work, just projects that a team of 8-15 people can tackle and knock out in a few hours. No inside-house work either, just outside.

They'll go door-to-door in a neighborhood and book up several projects within a few blocks of each other for a Saturday a few weeks in advance, and hit them all at once with co-ordinated teams, and they can really make an impact on a lot of people in a neighborhood in one day. For folks that can barely get to the store and back home, having little stuff done like this means a lot to them.

Since my back surgeries, I can't do the work part, so I've volunteered to do photo and video work for them, which they also really need for promotion. Great people, you should check 'em out. They get volunteers from schools, churches, companies, etc., and she said you wouldn't believe how many volunteer groups come to them from other states! Last Sunday they had 200 people out on projects.

Lady that runs it is Angela Bomgaars, very nice person. Check 'em out. All you need is people, and some pickups with basic lawn and painting tools, maybe chainsaws, rototillers, mowers, etc. http://www.extremecommunitymakeover.org/

The DAV (Disabled American Veterans) are always looking for volunteers to do various VERY worthwhile jobs. I drive a 12 passenger DAV van from Raton, NM down to the VA Hospital in Albuquerque. I know this is way way too far for you big city, Denver area guys to possibly help out down here but wanted to mention this in the event some of your team would like to drive the DAV van in the general Denver Metro area. I have only driven for the past three years but have totaled over 7,500 accumulated miles and 500 hours.
One of the great things about driving these Vets is the great stories a lot of them will share and I am still waiting to hear of one of them who may have also been stationed at Ladd AFB, Fairbanks, where I was stationed in the U.S. Army from 1956 - 1958.
Recently noted a stenciled saying on one of the DAV vans, "Want to do something really patriotic - help a Vet".
