These aren't released to the public yet- (Aug/Sept release date?)

it's not like 7.62x39 hasn't been done in the AR platform.. and what were the major issues?

    1) Magazines have issues, because they're made too straight for the tapered cartridge,so they can fit in the magwell (no, not that kind of straight- go back to the "OK, seriously admins, WTF?!?!? " thread)
    2) Bolts are weaker, due to larger base diameter of the cartridge
    3) DI system clogs with dirty steel-case ammo (which defeats the purpose of an AR over an AK, right?- use quality ammo for accuracy)

Obviously RRA is addressing #1, but are they going to use a hybrid bolt (one based on AR10 diameter, like used on some of the big-bore solutions) to address #2?
#3 could be addressed with a piston-system, or by just not using quality ammo to take advantage of the platform

and a new issue- AK mags aren't designed for bolt hold-open... will they abandon that feature, or find a way that works (likely to not work with EVERY AK mag)?

I like the IDEA, but the execution is where this will make or break it.

They didn't put a piston in there? What kind of buffer does this thing need?

If I am going to shoot 7.62x39, I am going to pull out the AK-47, which is by far the best weapon system for this cartridge.

If I am going to shoot a subsonic AR-15 SBR, I am going to use 300 Blackout or possibly 9mm.

I don't see a lot of usefulness with an AR-15 chambered in 7.62x39; personally, I would rather cut down the 5.56 brass and use a non-tapered cartridge in this weapon system with the correct dimensions on the bolt carrier. I think it also comes down to the availability of re-loadable brass. In the last five years, I picked up over 4 five gallon buckets of free 5.56 and 223 brass. In that same time, I picked up one 30 cal ammo can of re-loadable 7.62x39 brass.
I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.
