    Default Hail Damage

Anybody know if insurance will cover hail damage on a vehicle in the driveway that doesn't have full coverage? Came home from work tonight and the car made it through the storm last night unscathed but got it good tonight.

    dang, sorry to hear that.

not sure about hail damage. I think if it is stolen out or your driveway or your home then it is covered by home owners. only thing to do is call them and try.

was anything on the house damaged? broken windows, roof, shingles, gutters, shed etc? you probably have a deductible you would have to meet first, so if you are going to make a claim get everything on there that was damaged, not just the vehicle.

The roof is leaking in the garage and I haven't looked in the attic yet. Windows all look good which I would've been ok with some of them getting broken, it would've given me reason update. It looks like all 12 of the golfball sized hail in the neighborhood hit my car. You know its bad when you can see the damage in the dark. And the windshield is trashed, I was looking to trade it in on a truck this week, but its not going to be worth a whole lot now.

No. For the few extra dollars we carry full coverage +++
After the tornado you'd be surprised what is and is not covered. Let me rephrase that. You would be surprised what replacement coverage does and does not cover.

No, the damage to your vehicle will not be covered by your home owners insurance

Not a rider, it would need to have a policy with comp coverage

Rider, comp coverage, what ever it's called, w/out it, that's an out of pocket expense.

There are a few misleading things in this thread that should be cleared up.

    1) Your home owners coverage does not cover your vehicle, PERIOD. It doesn't matter if the car was parked in the living room when it got hail damage. It doesn't matter if it was stolen from your drive way.

    2) You can not get a rider from your home owners to cover comprehensive to your vehicle.

Sorry Matt, your car is not covered for the damage unless you carry comprehensive on your auto policy.

What Sniper and Jim are thinking about is that some insurance companies will allow you to share the HIGHER deductible between your home and auto insurance, IF, you have both your home and auto with the same company, and IF, both your home and auto were damaged in the same event, such as a hail storm, tornado, fire, etc.

Close to what i was thinking. I have umbrella coverage on a policy we've had forever. Little higher payments than most, but the coverage is amazing. The amount we have been paying over time was recovered and then some 4 years ago when the tornado hit us.
Kind of one of those You can pay me now, or pay me latter CYA things
